There is one thing that consistently bothers me as an art major. In all of my classes I've had most people (not all) put minimal effort into their work, and the worst part is... They're BFAs(Bachelor of Fine Arts)! Like really, you'd think you'd take things a little more seriously. I mean I don't say anything in class cause I'm the kind of person that doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings but sheesh. I mean, I'm pretty sure no one from class comes on my DA so I think it'll be okay to rant here a bit.
A prime example of this craziness is my sculpture class. Right now we are making bas reliefs. If you don't know what that is, here is a link: [link] And we could do whatever we wanted. I chose to do a dragon. NOT EASY. Seriously, I'm not even half way done and it's due tuesday. But other people in my class are barely taking this seriously, I think. They're all really nice people and good artists, but they're undermining themselves! The one girl is doing snow flakes that she took off google and copy paste'd on to a piece of paper...I mean...wha. Another girl did an anchor. That's it. An anchor raised up a bit from the base surface. Another girl is making a disney sign for her mom that says Vacationers club on it...which she got the image off the internet. Another girl is doing an anime character, but she's not very good, beginner at best, and in my head I'm thinking, WHY on EARTH would you do THAT? I'm an anime artist (obvious) but I never, ever...EVER put anime into my artwork at school, because in many cases it's not applicable, except in possibly graphic design and things like that. Or if I want to do a Roy Lichenstein-esque painting. Other than that NOOOO no no no no. And all they do is complain about whatever advice that the professor gives them. I'm not going to say I don't not really like her too but I still take her advice to heart because she is a professional. I'm not a BFA, I'm an Art Edcuation K-12 Sub Spec. major...(no idea how you acronym that lulz AEK12SS? LOL) but I listen to what she has to say. I take this SERIOUSLY. This isn't highschool. I'm not taking this class just because I'm doing it for the lulz. I'm taking it because I may potentially have to teach it in the future. I'm taking it to learn from a pro and be able to transfer that to my students. I want to know all the things I need to know. And they're not even trying. They're not TRYING. It just aggravates me that they wouldn't want to take that seriously.
